Smart cities backed by industrial corridors
National Industrial Corridors
National Industrial Corridor Development Programme is India's most ambitious infrastructure programme aiming to develop new industrial cities as 'Smart Cities' and converging next generation technologies across infrastructure sectors. Government of India is developing various industrial corridor projects as part of the National Industrial Corridor Programme which is aimed at development of futuristic industrial cities in India which can compete with the best manufacturing and investment destinations in the world. The same will create employment opportunities and economic growth leading to overall socio-economic development.
Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor
Government of India is developing the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), first industrial corridor on the backbone of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) between Delhi and Mumbai covering an overall length of 1504 km and passing through the states of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi NCR, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra, with end terminals at Dadri in the Delhi NCR and Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) near Mumbai.
Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor
The Government of India is developing Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) along the alignment of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) traversing a route length of 1839 km in six states. The objective of AKIC is to optimize the present economic and employment potential of the region, stimulate investments particularly in manufacturing, agro-processing, services and export-oriented units and promote overall economic development of the area through creation of high standard infrastructure and an enabling business environment.
Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor
Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) is planned to achieve accelerated development and regional industry agglomeration in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor proposes to address the infrastructure bottlenecks through a holistic approach while benefiting from the inherent strengths and competitiveness of each state. Accordingly, high impact/ market driven nodes are proposed to be developed at strategic locations within the corridor, to provide transparent and investment friendly facility.
Vizag Chennai Industrial Corridor
ECIC will be the nation’s first coastal corridor. It stands out in comparison with other proposed national corridors as it hosts several ports along the east coast that serve not only as international gateways but more importantly as critical links in supply chain. Vizag Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) has been identified as first phase of ECIC.
Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor
Government of Telangana proposed to develop Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor (HNIC) in Telangana State, which is well-positioned in the national network of industrial corridors and strategically located in the influence area of North-South Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).
Hyderabad Warangal Industrial Corridor
The 235 km Hyderabad Warangal Industrial Corridor (HWIC) extends along the NH 163 between Hyderabad and Warangal, the two most important economic hubs of the state of Telangana. HWIC proposed to address the infrastructure bottlenecks through a holistic approach while benefiting from the inherent strength of the region in the state.
Hyderabad Bengaluru Industrial Corridor
The proposed Mega Industrial Hub at Orvakal village at Kurnool district admeasures an area of approximately 4742 acres spread across 3 distinct land parcels located off NH 40, which connects Hyderabad to Chennai via Kurnool, Nandyal, Kadapa and Tirupati
Odisha Economic Corridor
Odisha Economic Corridor is part of the northernmost stretch of the East Coast Industrial Corridor (ECIC). OEC has been envisaged in the state of Odisha, which links up with the Vishakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC). The Concept Development Plan (CDP) of OEC as part of ECIC has been prepared by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Bengaluru Mumbai Industrial Corridor
The Government of India intends to develop the Bengaluru Mumbai Industrial Corridor between Bengaluru and Mumbai, which would have an influence area spread across the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. The Bengaluru Mumbai Industrial Corridor is intended to facilitate development of a well-planned and resource-efficient industrial base served by world-class sustainable connectivity infrastructure, bringing significant benefits in terms of innovation, manufacturing, job creation and resource security to these states.
Extension of CBIC to Kochi via Coimbatore
The extension of the Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) to Kochi via Coimbatore was approved with Dharmapuri Salem in Tamil Nadu admeasuring approx. 1,773 acres and Palakkad Industrial Area in Kerala admeasuring approx. 1,710 acres as the priority nodes for development.
Delhi Nagpur Industrial Corridor
The Government of India intends to develop the Delhi-Nagpur Industrial Corridor (DNIC) Project proposed with National Highways (being developed under the North South Corridor of National Highways Development Project) as a backbone and in close vicinity to the North-South DFC future Corridor, utilizing the existing Highway and Dedicated Freight Corridor along this route.
